5 cool selfie spots in Kitakyushu

Kitakyushu is easily one of the most naturally beautiful and scenic cities in Japan. Here are 5 selfie spots with awesome backgrounds!

1. Mt. Komonji

Mt. Komonji can be accessed from Kokura station and you can reach the peak of the mountain via a hiking trail. It typically takes about an hour to get to the top (2 hours for weaker hikers), and you can enjoy stunning views of Kitakyushu from the peak!

2. Kokura Bay

Kokura Bay is also a short walk from Kokura station, offering amazing mountain views and calm blue waters surrounding the boat docks. It’s a great spot for taking selfies as you get clear shots of the mountains, sea, and coastal cities of Kitakyushu.

3. Adachi Cemetery

I’ve mentioned in my Adachi Cemetery article the peaceful and spiritual experience of visiting this spectacular graveyard. It truly is a one-of-a-kind cemetery that offers amazing photo backgrounds of endless gravestones, city buildings, misty mountains, and green forests!

4. Fukuoka Kenei Central Park

Fukuoka Kennei Central Park is by far the most scenic park I’ve been to in the Kitakyushu area, offering amazing walking paths surrounded by tall grass, trees, and a large central pond. There are plenty of park benches to sit and relax here, and you’ll often find elderly people enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and slow, chilled vibe here.

5. Kokura Castle

Last but not least is the iconic Kokura Castle, boasting a tall heritage structure that is comparable to Osaka Castle and Himeji Castle. This is a fantastic spot for selfies as there are typically no crowds in the vicinity and the castle facilitates a fantastic sunset or sunrise photo!

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
