Kameoka’s Asobi No Oka is the most scenic playground in Kyoto!

Taking the kids to a playground (or dare I say yourself to a playground) doesn’t have to feel like a chore with Kameoka‘s scenic Asobi No Oka!

Asobi No Oka 遊びの丘 literally means “Play Hill” and is a generic term to refer to playgrounds on a hill (duh!). This particular playground in Kameoka offers scenic mountain views and stunning autumn leaves (when the season is right!), not to mention an elaborate playground with one of the biggest downhill slides I’ve ever seen!

Up, Up, And Away!

A park with plenty to see, from swirly chairs to tunnel slides and more, each flight of stairs leads to a new section of the playground. There are also plenty of open grass areas where you can set up a picnic and enjoy amazing views of Kameoka city and beyond!

Scenic Mountain Ranges

Indeed, these mountain ranges are the real deal. Misty clouds hover around them to create a mesmerizing effect, and the area is abundant in thick trees that surround the residential structures of Kameoka city. At the higher altitude of Asobi No Oka, you can really feel a sense of weightlessness as you become aligned with the distant mountain peaks.

Slippery Slide With A View!

Once you reach the top of the hill, you can enjoy the best views that this elaborate playground has to offer.

Not only that, but you can finally hop onto the giant slippery slide which extends from the top of the hill all the way down to the bottom.

Of course, you should keep in mind the long ascent back to the top (you may want to jump off the slide halfway to save yourself some work!).

In The Heart Of Kameoka!

Truthfully, finding this beautiful and scenic park was a complete fluke, as my real goal was the Kameoka Fog Terrace. Asobi No Oka proved to be a nice pit stop during my trek to the top of the mountain.

I haven’t forgotten its beauty, and it practically stole the show since the Fog Terrace was lacking, well, fog. In any case, Kameoka proves once again why it’s one of Kyoto’s most scenic cities!
