Okay, this article is an obvious plug of my new book – The Japanese Pursuit of Perfection, but there’s more to it, I promise!

Yes, I am plugging my new book The Japanese Pursuit of Perfection in this article of mine, but that doesn’t take away from the message! The truth is writing has allowed me to experience life and process my travels in a way that most cannot, seeing beauty where most wouldn’t look for it, and feeling things deeply even in the moments of insignificance.
Processing Your Experiences

The best thing about writing reflective pieces is that it allows you to really absorb and process your experiences. As you rack your brain trying to find the right words, you start to recognize the specific aspects of your memories and experiences that you value most. Not only do you get to learn more about yourself in the process, but you also get to extract more meaning from your travels and feel more fulfilled.
Jogging The Memory

The other big benefit of writing, particularly about your travels, is that you find yourself recalling memories and details about your experiences that you thought had vanished with the passing of time. For instance, when I was writing my book centered around my most profound observations in Japan, I was recalling experiences and interactions that I’d long forgotten, such as funny conversations with co-workers and awkward moments with FamilyMart cashiers.
Solidifying Your Adventure

Perhaps most important of all is that writing allows your experiences from your travels and how you felt about them to live on forever, especially if you publish your writings to the world (which I highly recommend). You never know who you might inspire to have their own adventure and write about it, but more importantly, you’ve cemented something creative and soulful on paper. In the world of AI and ChatGPT, we need more human writing in the world, flaws and all, to reconnect the spirit of humanity and remember where our true fulfillment in life lies.
