Indulging in the deli feeds at Gyomu Super

For the best feeds when you’re short on the dough, Gyomu Super offers incredibly delicious ready-to-eat Japanese and international cuisine!

Fried food galore!

It may not be the healthiest option, but the fried food section of Gyomu Super supermarket is one of the best and most affordable I’ve seen in Japan. Karaage chicken, vegetable tempura, fried ebi (shrimp), and more are all within the price range of 150–350 yen (approximately $1.50–$3.50 USD). For less than 1,000 yen, I put together the oiliest feed of kings, comprising fried chicken, fried fish, fried potato, and fried everything basically. Needless to say, this feast absolutely took me out of commission, but for a man living payslip to payslip, it was a much-needed session of indulgence!

Bento as low as 199 yen!

Yup, you read that right, some of these bento box meals cost as little as 199 yen (1.35 USD) at Gyomu Super, a price unheard of in the Western world! Complete with a generous helping of seasoned steamed rice, marinated grilled chicken, pickled radish, mashed potato, and broccoli, it’s a price that has me thinking they’re making a net loss!

Stock up on drinks!

In addition to an endless variety of local and international food, Gyomu Super offers dirt-cheap drinks from soda to tea, juice, and more! A standard can of Coca-Cola costs as little as 50 yen, and that’s without any additional discounts! Other drinks, such as coffee cans and carbonated milk drinks, cost as little as 35 yen each. During the summer, these drinks were an absolute life-saver to combat the gruesome heat of the rising sun!
