Awesome Autumn! The 5 best places to see Japan’s colorful leaves

Autumn is a time when Japan becomes the most colorful place on Earth! Here are the 5 most colorful places to embrace the Japanese autumn:

5. Inokashira Park

Located in Tokyo’s west just outside Shinjuku city is one of the most zen places I’ve ever been to – Inokashira Park. Gold and red autumn leaves surround the Inokashira Pond where you can ride on the swan boats with a friend or loved one. There are plenty of walkways and bridges to enjoy the stunning natural surroundings and you can even visit the nearby Ghibli Museum.

4. Osaka Castle

Osaka Castle offers so much more than just the structure itself. The grounds have aesthetic walking paths, mini shrines, temples, and beautiful autumn trees surrounding the huge white castle. It can be worth “going off the beaten track,” so to speak, when you visit Osaka Castle as you will find a few hidden gems like these colorful leaves away from the crowds.

3. Kameoka Station

Kameoka is often regarded as the most scenic city in Kyoto when it comes to natural beauty. Autumn is particularly the best time of year to come to Kameoka, and you’ll know why that’s the case as soon as you arrive at Kameoka Station! The roads are decorated with gorgeous golden trees that brighten up the entire city and create a fantastical atmosphere.

2. Kameoka Fog Terrace

It’s not exactly Kameoka Fog Terrace that’s home to beautiful autumn leaves, but more so the journey to get there. I highly recommend hiking up on foot rather than driving as you’ll see stunning gold and red leaves that you’d otherwise miss while speeding down in a motor vehicle. Some of the best Momiji leaves I saw in Japan were on the way up to Kameoka Fog Terrace!

1. Maruyama Park

Kyoto’s most beautiful park in my humble opinion is Maruyama Park just behind the Yasaka Shrine. Located in Gion’s geisha district, this park has some of the most magnificent ponds, bridges, and of course, autumn leaves! At this time of year, the entirety of Maruyama Park is blanketed in scarlet red trees that reflect brilliantly against the crystal clear waters like a perfect mirror!

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
