Staying at a capsule hotel is one of the best ways to see Japan for those with an adventurous spirit, and I can easily attest to that.
Japan has long been a hub for capsule hotels and both locals and foreigners love the experience of it. But what makes this concept of shoving yourself into a box so appealing for certain people? Well, I can only speak for myself here. In fact, my last trip to Japan was by far the best I’ve ever had. Where did I stay you may ask? At the Shinjuku Transit Capsule Hotel in Tokyo!
A great way to see Tokyo
If you’re staying in Tokyo during your trip to Japan, chances are you’ll be out and about. The nation’s capital is known for its abundance of iconic towns that neighbor one another along the state. For that reason, you want to make sure public transport is easily accessible from where you’re staying. You’ll also want to stay someplace affordable and preserve your budget for traveling around via trains, buses, and Shinkansen (Japanese bullet train).
Tokyo capsule hotels are built for convenience. You will always find a local capsule hotel in highly desirable locations such as a city center or major train stations. In my case, the Shinjuku Transit Capsule Hotel was just a short walk from Shinjuku station; the world’s busiest train station. Neighboring tourist favorites like Shibuya, Harajuku, and Akihabara, it was the perfect location for soaking in Tokyo city.
Affordable & comfortable
One of the biggest appeals of Japanese capsule hotels is their cheap, budget-friendly prices. After all, affordability and convenience go hand-in-hand. I was fortunate to only pay about 20 USD per night during my stay at Shinjuku Transit. All-in-all, I stayed for a total of two weeks, my accommodation bill reaching just a couple hundred dollars in the end.
Above all else, you’ll find a surprisingly comfortable experience should you stay at a capsule hotel in Japan. The capsule features a comfortable mattress, covers, and in my case, a power socket to charge my phone! You get the feeling of laying in a pod bound for outer space as you tuck yourself into the cozy and intimate vibe of your very own capsule.
Adventure awaits!
If you are young at heart and have a hunger for adventure, then a capsule hotel can be the perfect complement to your holiday. Cheap, comfortable, and convenient, Japan’s capsule hotels really encapsulate the three Cs of great accommodation. In particular, if you plan on exploring Tokyo then I cannot advocate more for booking yourself in a capsule hotel for the adventure of a lifetime!
Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
