The ever-changing colors of Kyoto’s outback farmlands

Kyoto is home to the most beautiful natural sceneries in Japan. A few kilometers out from the city center are vast seasonal farmlands.

In the small countryside town of Mukaijima, vast farmlands surround the suburbs in the most aesthetic fashion. Mountain ranges surround these beautiful green rice fields as the thick white clouds appear closer to land than ever.

Lush Green Produce

For most of the year, Kyoto’s farmlands typically look like this. Lush green rice fields are neatly organized into straight vertical lines across a wide area of land. When you see just how long and vast these fields stretch, it’s no wonder this country never runs out of rice! In other parts of Kyoto, particularly in Uji, you will find green tea fields too, another delicacy of this beautiful country.

Golden Crops of Autumn

At different times of the year, these rice fields take on different colors. Most notably, the season of harvesting which takes place in autumn sees these fields transform into a gorgeous golden color to create a whole new vibe. Personally, I love this time of year the best, as the temperature is mild with a cool breeze and Mother Nature starts to take on all kinds of new colors.

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
