The best meals from Fresco – Japan’s 24-hour supermarket!

Fresco is like the Walmart or Tesco of Japan (rhymes with it too!), but unlike those supermarkets, they are open 24 hours every day!

Fresco is one of the supermarket giants of Japan, alongside Aeon and Gyomu Super, and is open 24 hours 7 days a week (with the exception of New Year’s Day). Here, you can get fresh ready-to-eat meals that reflect all your favorite Japanese cuisine options like sushi, tempura, rice bowls, and more! In addition, there’s plenty of fresh produce that is ideal for cooking up delicious nutritious meals.

Amazing Meat Varieties

Japan must have upped his trade ports in recent times, because Fresco not only offers goods from Hokkaido but also overseas produce such as Australian beef and Norwegian salmon.

These items are ideal for cooking up healthy meals, and for me personally, it’s been a lifesaver for helping me build muscle in the gym.

I’ve talked before about the struggles of finding protein in Japan, but stores like Fresco make it easy to meet your dietary goals!

Fresh, Affordable Sashimi

One of my personal favorite meals to whip up using Fresco ingredients is a sashimi salad bowl with sesame dressing.

This meal can be made in under a minute and requires no cooking on your part.

Simply grab one of Fresco’s many ready-to-eat salad mix bags for as cheap as 100 yen and combine it with a few trays of salmon and tuna sashimi from the deli (prices range from 300–500 yen per tray).

Tasty Japanese Meals

Of course, if you’re not a complete carnivore like me, there are plenty of carb-based meals you can buy ready to eat or to cook up at home.

One of the easiest meals to make is Japanese curry. All you need is a bag or rice, a box of curry stock, and meat and/or vegetables of your choice.

The options truly are endless at Fresco. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, they have all the ingredients you need to make iconic Japanese meals such as oden, sukiyaki, and ramen.

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
