Gyomu Super is Kyoto’s best Muslim-friendly supermarket chain

Located in the heart of Kyoto in the Fushimi ward is Gyomu Super. Here, you can find local and international goods including halal.

Plenty Of Local And International Goods!

Gyomu Super is one of the most unique grocery stores I’ve ever been to, from its layout to its products.

Unlike most supermarkets in the world, Gyomu Super offers both local goods as well as products from every corner of the world!

You can buy fresh Japanese produce in one corner and Arabian dates made in Dubai in another.

As such, it’s no surprise that Gyomu Super attracts both Japanese citizens and foreigners like myself as we embrace one another’s cultural delicacies.

Delicious Halal Options

Finding halal food can be challenging in a non-Muslim mono ethnic country like Japan, but stores like Gyomu Super are definitely changing the game!

Here, you can purchase frozen meats imported from Brazil that are 100% halal-certified, even providing detailed descriptions of the Islamic way in which the animal was slaughtered.

In addition to this, there are plenty of halal frozen products such as pastries and oven-baked goods.

After purchasing and cooking this bag of chicken thighs and turning it into a Japanese curry dish, I can attest to its quality in terms of taste and preserved freshness.

Awesome Food, Lowest Prices!

In addition to frozen goods, you can purchase ready-made meals at Gyomu Super, all of which look and taste exceptionally delicious!

Not only that, but they are super affordable with prices dropping even lower than the infamous dirt-cheap lunch packs at Japan’s convenience stores.

For less than 700 yen (<5 USD), I bought a tray of fried potato pieces, a tray of tempura vegetable varieties, and a tempura shrimp rice bowl!

A quick re-heat in my home microwave and these lunch packs were tasty enough to rival the quality of a standard Japanese restaurant!

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
