Formerly known as Sapporo Airport, New Chitose Airport is Hokkaido’s main aviation point for arrivals, departures, and delicious feeds!

Hokkaido is a haven of amazing foods from soul-warming soup curry to delicious lamb barbecue. Even at New Chitose Airport, the feeds you have access to are off the charts! Here are some of the best foods and drinks to try the next time you’re traveling in and out of Sapporo.
Jingisukan Lamb & Mutton

Jingisukan is the Japanese word for Genghis Khan (inspired by the Mongol’s love for lamb) and refers to a style of lamb and mutton grilling that was popularized in Hokkaido some time ago. At New Chitose Airport’s international terminal food court, there is a restaurant where you can enjoy lamb or mutton rice bowls and noodle soups in various set meals. If you missed out on your Jingisukan feed during your Hokkaido trip, this is the best way to get a last minute lamb fix!
Tempura…Everything!

Another amazing restaurant is this udon and soba restaurant that offers the best variety of tempura side dishes I’ve ever seen. So good in presentation in fact, I opted to not get any udon at all and just stacked up on the many varieties of tempura at the self-service bar. Tempura shrimp, seafood sticks, vegetables, and more, you best believe I filled up on these delicious golden crisp goods before boarding my flight back to Kyoto.
Hokkaido Milk Bar

One of the best ways to experience the creamy goodness of premium Hokkaido milk is at a milk bar.
Again, if you missed out on trying this rich delicacy, then you have a chance to try all the best Hokkaido milk brands at the New Chitose Airport milk bar.
Sealed in classic glass bottles for the best possible taste and texture, there is an abundance of milk drinks to try from original to coffee flavor and fruit smoothies.
Coffee Soft Serve!
Lastly, I want to make a special shoutout to the little ice cream stall that lies beyond security in the boarding gates section.
An opportunity to try delicious premium Hokkaido milk soft serves, this ice cream shop has an amazing variety of flavors.
I opted for a coffee soft serve which was so creamy and good while maintaining a strong hit of coffee just the way I like it!
Needless to say, I left Sapporo with my tastebuds satisfied and a calorie surplus that had me running back to the gym!
