Revisiting Kameoka’s Nango Park during Kyoto’s autumn season

The last time I visited Nango Park was on a miserable rainy day. This time, I am striving to do it justice with a sunny day visit!

A gorgeous autumn day in Kyoto, what better way to spend it than at its most scenic city of Kameoka? It’s amazing how much the place transforms when the sun is out and the trees are blossoming. From gloomy gray clouds to bright blue skies, here is what you can expect to see at Kameoka’s Nango Park should you visit when the weather’s good!

Stunning Flowers in Full Blossom

I have no idea what this species of flower is, but it looks like a rebellious sunflower that decided to bleach its petals pink.

Gorgeous colorful flowers like these can be seen all along the moat of Kameyama Castle, offering visual aesthetics and fragrant scents.

Apparently, there are cherry blossom trees that bloom here during the Spring too, so standby for my “Nango Park Spring Edition” coming 2025!

Rich Autumn Leaves!

I never realized how many of the trees at Kameoka turn bright yellow and gold during the autumn season (they were all dull green on my last visit).

Beautiful autumn trees like these are spread across Nango Park and the entire city of Kameoka, bringing the place to life and uplifting the energy of the people.

The hachiko or “tiger fish” statue also has a more potent look on a sunny day as you can see the scales and details of the sculpture more clearly.

Rest, Walk, or Fish!

Walking along these docks at Nango Park on a gorgeous day like this can give you the type of therapy you didn’t think you needed. There are also seats and vending machines along the way to sit down with a good beverage while enjoying the amazing weather. I’m not much of a fisherman, but I did spot a few elderly people filling up their buckets with catch after catch (talk about free sashimi).
