Krispy Kreme Japan is unlike any of its branches worldwide, offering unique items exclusive to each prefecture, in this case, Hokkaido!

My very first Krispy Kreme experience in Japan happened to be in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido. With the motivation to try exclusive Hokkaido goods, I was drawn in by the marketing showcasing a “Premium Hokkaido Squirrel Kinaco Milk” doughnut and simply had to try it!
The Same, But Different

To truly experience the uniqueness of Krispy Kreme Japan, we needed to at least try the original glaze doughnut to investigate for any differences.
Unsurprisingly, it was exactly the same, at least compared to the branches I’ve tried in Australia.
Knowing that the quality was up to par, it was time to try the exclusive new doughnut that was crafted as a Hokkaido prefecture specialty.
Kawaii Doughnut Design
The Ezorisu is a breed of squirrel native to Hokkaido prefecture and is the basis on which this new seasonal doughnut is designed.
Premium Hokkaido Ezorisu Kinaco Milk doughnut features a cute design made with kinako which is a roasted soybean flour typically used in Japanese baking.
Of course, it also uses premium Hokkaido milk which is considered a delicacy in Japan which I can attest to.

Delicious Inside & Out!

This Premium Hokkaido Ezorisu Kinaco Milk doughnut was the perfect introduction to Krispy Kreme Japan and a nice way to embrace Hokkaido’s unique flavors.
It maintained the classic crisp exterior of Krispy Kreme doughnuts but came with a filling that was reminiscent of Japanese brown sugar desserts such as bracken and milk tea.
Ultimately, the doughnut was milky, creamy, and a little nutty, offering a unique flavor dynamic that had a nice fusion of Western and Japanese confectionary flavors.
Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
