The bus ride from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko station is more than just a transfer, it’s an experience that offers extraordinary views of Mt. Fuji!

While there are ways to get up close to Mt. Fuji purely via train lines, you would be missing iconic backstreet views that can only be seen when you take the Kawaguchiko bus to the Fuji Five Lakes area.
Get Nice & Comfortable

The buses that operate around Mt. Fuji are really comfortable, cozy, and easy to board.
You can purchase a ticket on the spot using cash or simply tap your IC transport card that you’d typically use at train stations in Japan.
The seats are pretty spacious with plenty of leg room and the windows are large and transparent so you can see the best angles of Mt. Fuji with no interference!
Getting the “Local Views”
Going through the backstreets of the local area around Kawaguchiko is a surreal experience.
You get to see rare views of Mt. Fuji from the eyes of the locals.
It made me realize that some people literally wake up to a Mt. Fuji view every day!

Rare Photo Opportunities

Seeing Mt. Fuji from the bus window is not something I thought would be a highlight of my trip to Kawaguchiko.
Truthfully, some of the views that we saw on the bus ride were even more magnificent than when we arrived at our ryokan, the Shuhoukaku Kogetsu.
Of course, the only thing you need to worry about is passengers’ heads getting in the way (try not to be that guy).
Unbelievable View

No one would believe that I took this photo through a bus window, though if you look carefully you can spot a subtle reflection. This is just one of many examples of the spectacular Mt. Fuji views you can enjoy on the bus ride to Kawaguchiko!
Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
