The Japanese are some of the most minimalist people when it comes to prioritizing only the essentials and Muji is a reflection of this ideal.

Muji is a brand of affordable high-quality clothing, furniture, household appliances, and more! With stores all over Japan, I visited a branch in Shinjuku, Tokyo, where I was pleasantly surprised by the variety, material, and prices in the men’s fashion area.
Stylish Fashion

I’m not the most stylish guy, and I generally dress like a hobo, but Muji made me feel like some kind of fashion model.
I tried on some of their cardigans and opted for this cool black cotton one (once you go black you don’t go back!) and was quite pleased with the fit.
The general rule for foreigners in Japan is you should go a size or two above your usual size as Japanese sizes are typically smaller by default.
No-Brand Hoodies
One of the great things about Muji is that their clothes are no-brand.
This means that despite being part of the Muji brand, technically, they still don’t advertise any logos or mottos on their clothing to suggest any affiliation with a brand.
In fact, the word Muji is derived from the Japanese word Mujirushi Ryohin which translates to “No-Brand Quality Goods,” and that statement couldn’t be more true!

Long-Lasting Shirts!

Not the best photo I took of this T-shirt from Muji, but nothing a good iron won’t fix!
In any case, this is still one of my favorite shirts today despite having bought it 4 years ago in Tokyo!
These shirts range between 1,000–1,500 yen, which is an insanely good deal given the quality and durability of them (not to mention the style!).
Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
