Top 5 Ohayo dairy products you’ll find only in Japan

Ohayo is a premium brand of milk in Japan and the producer of the most delicious dairy products that the country has to offer!

5. Ohayo “Old Memories” Ice Cream

This iconic ice cream is a bit of a rarity in Japan, and I’ve only found it at a particular Gyomu Super branch in Kyoto so far.

Known as Mukashi Natsukashi or “Old Memories” ice cream by translation, this product boasts the “gentle sweetness of milk and eggs.”

A fitting slogan indeed, because what separates this ice cream from others is certainly the subtle presence of egg in addition to the standard dairy ingredients of a typical ice cream.

4. Ohayo Brulé

One of Ohayo’s signature products is their Brulé pudding which you’ll typically find in convenience stores or supermarkets where they’re available in bulk.

The top layer is a torched sugary glaze that resembles a gourmet dessert both in appearance and taste.

Ohayo Brulé is special not only because of the high-quality Jersey milk used but also the freshly laid eggs which differ from other pudding brands that use preserved liquid eggs.

3. Ohayo Milk Pudding

My first love was the Ohayo milk pudding varieties when I first tried it on my second trip to Japan back in 2018.

I was inspired by a food vlogger who swore this was the “creamiest” and “best” milk pudding he had ever tasted.

Unsurprisingly, I now share this sentiment as Ohayo milk pudding has completely changed the game and redefined my standards for what constitutes a milk pudding.

They come in a variety of flavors including original, caffe latte, and vanilla.

2. Ohayo Jersey Milk Ice Cream

It may have the appearance of a standard vanilla ice cream, but this is in fact a “milk ice cream” that is made to optimize creaminess and enhance that rich milky taste!

Milk soft serves are a common trend in Japan, and often times what you thought was a regular vanilla cone winds up being a milk soft serve instead.

Ohayo doesn’t just use any milk for these soft serves though, they use their specialty Jersey milk sourced from the rare breed of Jersey cattle, resulting in an exceptional flavor unmatched.

1. Ohayo Koi Milk

The root of all Ohayo dairy products, the source of the brilliant creamy taste and silky smooth texture – Ohayo Koi milk.

Made with 4.4% fat content, it’s among the tastiest milk you’ll ever drink, from its rich texture to its vanilla-like aftertaste.

Japanese milk brands stretch far and wide, but having tried every single brand I could get my hands on, Ohayo Koi still stands as the literal crème of the crop.

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs.
