Tokyo’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery is among just six in the world!

Alongside Seattle, New York, Milan, Shanghai, and Chicago, Tokyo’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery offers a unique and immersive coffee experience!

Located in Meguro city in the Tokyo prefecture, Starbucks Reserve Roastery is a multi-level facility designed for coffee enthusiasts (and anyone else who’s curious) to enjoy a truly immersive coffee roastery experience.

Look For The Big “R”

The big “R” is accompanied by a big star to indicate that this is no ordinary Starbucks establishment, but a Reserve Roastery and just one of six on the entire planet!

You can find Tokyo’s Starbucks Reserve Roastery just off the Meguro River, providing the perfect ending to a scenic riverside walk.

When I visited the establishment during the autumn season of 2022, I was impressed by how popular it was having drawn in so many visitors from around the world.

What I found even more impressive was how easily the Reserve Roastery handled the endless order requests from customers and their sophisticated queuing system which kept the atmosphere calm and relaxed.

Amazing Architecture

My first impression walking into Starbucks Reserve Roastery was that I had entered the Willy Wonka Chocolate Factory of the coffee world.

A huge copper cask of coffee beans and copper pipelines swirling across the ceiling gave me the vibe of a full-fledged coffee factory in motion.

The complex is made up of four different floors, the first being dedicated to roasting coffee, the second for tea brewing, the third for coffee and tea cocktails, and the fourth and final floor offering a rooftop seating area and event rooms.

In addition to beverages, there are dedicated bakery stalls serving up freshly baked delicacies to go with your drink, offering exclusive items you wouldn’t get at your standard Starbucks store.

Delicious Cold Brew Coffee!

As you may expect, in addition to the standard menu, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery also offers exclusive coffee brews using high-end brewing technology.

They also offer foam-topped and ice cream-topped coffee brews such as the Oriato Golden Foam Cold Brew and the Nitro Cold Brew Float.

Of course, getting to the rooftop area on the fourth floor can be a struggle while holding a tray of coffee, so it’s a good thing this facility has elevators in addition to its grand staircases.

I’m no coffee connoisseur, but even I could tell there was something special about the quality of this cold brew coffee fresh from the roastery (the aroma perhaps?) that separated it from a standard Starbucks coffee.

Scenic Rooftop Seating Area

The outdoor rooftop area is truly a sight to behold, overlooking all of Meguro City and the beautiful Meguro River from the comfort of your seat.

The floor, tables, and chairs (even the trays!) are all made of wooden plank materials that add to the vintage coffee roastery house vibe of this very special Starbucks cafe.

One of the best times of year to chill out at Starbucks Reserve Roastery is during the autumn season when the air is cool and the trees are crispy golden brown.

Roasted coffee, wooden furniture, and crisp autumn leaves are enough to give you that comfortable outback vibe reminiscent of sipping coffee by the fireplace of a hearty wooden home in the middle of the woods.

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
