Top 5 things to do in Shibuya, Tokyo

Shibuya is essentially the “New York” of Japan. As the busiest commercial city in Tokyo, it’s also a major tourist attraction for foreigners.

Visit the One Piece Mugiwara Store

Maybe not the first thing on everyone’s to-do list, but I highly suggest checking out the Mugiwara Store in Shibuya. Whether you’re a One Piece fan or not, it’s interesting to see how far a single piece of fictional media can go in terms of merchandise and marketing.

More importantly, if you are a fan of the show, it’s an absolute dream come true! The store features life-sized statues of your favorite characters, figurines, posters, cosplay outfits, accessories, and more!

Stroll around Yoyogi Park

Yoyogi Park is easily the most beautiful park I’ve ever been to. Mind you, I went around the Christmas period when the trees were covered in stunning blue lights and live musical performances were taking place.

Outside of Christmas, Yoyogi Park is still spectacularly stunning, especially in the Spring and Autumn seasons. During such seasons, you can enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms of Spring or the ravishing red and yellow Autumn leaves!

Try Micasadeco & Cafe’s Fluffy Pancakes!

Not only does Shibuya have the best park I’ve ever seen but also has the best pancakes! Waiting an hour in the queue was totally worth it to try the fluffy batter of Micasadeco & Cafe’s mouth-watering pancakes!

Unlike any pancakes I’ve ever had, these were thicker, fluffier, and softer than any dessert imaginable. Sprinkle some complementary sugar and syrup on top for extra sweetness and dip every buttery bite in the tasty cream for the perfect indulgence.

Enjoy the street performers

Depending on the day, you are likely to see some street performances happening in certain parts of Shibuya city. I was fortunate enough to see many street dancers, performers, and singers brightening up the atmosphere in Tokyo’s busiest district.

From balancing dishes to daring dance routines and impressive yo-yo skills, there was something for everyone during the holiday season in Shibuya. It’s amazing to see crowds of people gather around for these performances and it feels great to be part of an excited crowd!

Shibuya Shopping!

Shibuya shopping district

It goes without saying, “Shopuya” is the place to shop (I’ll walk myself out). Jokes aside, Shibuya is home to the world’s most loved brands and fashion icons with options to suit any budget!

Give your wardrobe a makeover and go on that shopping spree you’ve always envisioned. If you’re not into clothes, then you can try cafe hopping through Shibuya and see the endless delicacies the city has to offer!

Of course, if you are planning to visit Japan, you’ll need a way to get around the country as efficiently and affordably as possible. Japan Rail provides an abundance of travel passes to suit your travel needs. So whether you are traveling individually or as a group, the JR Pass is every traveler’s go-to for getting around and making the most of your time in Japan!
