Hidden in the wilderness of Amagase Forest Park, the Umanose Observation Deck is a small viewing platform overlooking Uji’s city and nature.
Located in the depths of Kyoto’s natural forests, the Umanose Observation Deck can be found as you hike through Amagase Forest Park in Uji. As part of Makiozan or “Mt. Makio,” it provides a high altitude for viewing the entire forest and the cities and mountains beyond!
Small but Effective!
About an hour’s walk from Uji station, the hike to Umanose Observation Deck is a rewarding one indeed. You get to experience the mountainous beauty of Kyoto as well as the scenic Amagase Dam as you ascend Makiozan.
The observation deck itself is nothing more than a small wooden platform surrounded by trees and bushes. Don’t be fooled by its appearance, however, because once you step inside, you’ll be amazed at the incredible scenery that reveals itself!
Amazing Scenery!
Indeed, you wouldn’t expect such a scenic view when you’re surrounded by nothing but tree bark and branches on your way up Makiozan. However, the Umanose Observation Deck is a strong reminder of how important it can be to “stop and smell the roses,” because you never know what beauty you might miss!
Soaking in the Atmosphere
There may not be any seats to rest, but it’s still worth taking a break before heading back down Makiozan.
Why not honor your time in the green tea capital of Japan with a nice bottle of green tea?
Personally, I really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere at Umanose Observation Deck, as it still has a strong natural presence that has yet to be commercialized by the tourism industry.
