Historical Background
I’m no expert on the matter nor am I a historian of any sort, but it’s unanimously agreed that the Yasaka Pagoda was built sometime in the 7th century.
That makes it more than 1400 years old! It is also known that the pagoda is the last remaining structure of a 6th-century Buddhist complex known as Hokan-ji Temple.
At 46 meters tall, the 5-story building was destroyed and reconstructed several times up until the 13th century.
Thus, the current structure has stood strong for the last 600 years without reconstruction.

Nowadays, the Yasaka Pagoda is a popular tourist attraction and arguably the most iconic structure in Kyoto.
