Takeshita Dori (Takeshita Street)
Harajuku and Takeshita Dori go hand in hand as this narrow strip is what the town is known for. A fashion and food hub targeting teenage interests, Harajuku quickly became a place where youthful energy thrives.
As you walk down the street, you’ll be mesmerized by the vibe and impressed by the atmosphere, especially on a weekend. Looking left and right you will see plenty of food outlets and clothing stores with enthusiastic workers looking to chat with you.
Harajuku crepes
From the start of the street to the end, Harajuku’s Takeshita Street is covered in shops selling Japanese-style crepes. Unlike European crepes, these delightful desserts are made with a paper-thin layer of wheat flour for a lighter finish.
I tried the crepes from a store called Santa Monica towards the end of Takeshita Street. Needless to say, I was impressed with their creamy strawberry crepe as it hit the sweet spot without making me feel sick.
Fashion fashion fashion!
The amount of clothing stores you’ll find in this compact area is more than that of an entire town! You’ll find everything from your favorite clothing brands like Nike to some of the most niche pop-culture wear imaginable.
I made sure not to leave without buying a funky Dragon Ball jacket that I certainly couldn’t find back home in Australia. Many of these clothing shops just show the tip of the iceberg as they extend downstairs into another floor!
King Kebab
I know what you’re thinking, having a kebab in Japan? Blasphemy! I assure you, however, that the kebabs in Harajuku are one of a kind!
With a selection of meats to choose from, oriental sauces, and halal products, it’s a great choice for Muslim customers. Top it up with a delicious melon soda for the perfect meal deal!
