A popular trend amongst locals and visitors in Japan is the phenomenon of pet cafes. This is my review of Moff Rell Bunny Cafe in Akihabara!
Moff Rell Bunny Cafe is the first animal cafe I ever visited during my trip to Japan in 2018. Admittedly, the idea of petting animals at a cafe seemed obscure to me at first. I thought “why would I want to pay money to play with a bunny? I don’t even like pets!” But my friend was adamant it was something we should do, so I decided to go along with it.
First impressions
My attitude immediately changed when I set foot in Moff Rell’s cute little bunny cafe in Akihabara. The layout of the room was comfortable and welcoming. It felt like I was entering a sweet old grandma’s house who was looking forward to seeing how I’ve grown. We were simply asked to write our names down and come back at our scheduled time.
Upon our return, the kind polite lady at the counter helped us into our fabulous pink aprons to get started. Despite our very limited Japanese, she did her best to communicate with us using her own English-speaking abilities, and did a great job at that! We were shown the many different types of bunnies with their individual personalities. After our introduction, we were separated into pairs so as not to overwhelm our fluffy friends.
Getting a feel for it
I was amazed at the different energy levels of each bunny. Some were hyperactive and always ready to go for a sprint, while others would curl up into a corner and take a nap. There was also a collection of cute little accessories that we could dress up the bunnies with. Of course, for the energetic buzzing bunnies, their hats would fly right off!
We were also given a limited supply of bunny rabbit food to feed our cushiony comrades. I was nervous at first (yes, I’ve never owned a pet in my life), but instantly fell in love with the sensation of the bunnies nibbling from my hand. My body and mind were overcome with joy, and I simply couldn’t get enough of fattening up these little fluff balls.
Feeling the love
Even when the bunnies were immobile, it was an experience to just be in their company. One of the perks of a resting bunny is that their hats won’t fall off!
I took the opportunity to crown this chilled couple as king and queen because they deserved it. Perhaps they weren’t the only ones feeling the love at Moff Rell Bunny Cafe!
In addition to the wearable accessories, you can buddy up your bunny with a plush toy. This hot dog plushy was the perfect partner for the brown ball of fluff you see before you. It was interesting to see how the different bunnies reacted to their toys, and I was loving every minute of it!
